The experment was conducted to study the effects of different levels of astragalus polysaccharides APS on antioxidant status and egg quality of laying hens. Five hundred and forty 27-week-old Hy-Line Brown hens were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 5 replicates,and each replicate contained 27 hens. Dietary treatments included a control group fed the based diet without APS and three other groups fed with 100,200 and 300 mg/kg APS in diets, respectively. The experiment lasted for 70 days. The results showed that supplementation of APS significantly increased （P〈0. 05） the activities of serum SOD,GSH-Px and T-AOC but reduced （P〈0. 05） the concentrations of serum and eggyolk MDA,and eggyolk cholesterol. Compared with the 35th day, serum SOD activities significantly increased （P〈0.05）, but serum T-AOC activities and MDA concentrations significantly reduced in all groups at the 70th day. Compared with the 35th day, eggyolk MDA concentration of control group was significantly increased （P〈0.05） whereas serum GSH-Px was significantly decreased （P〈0.05） at the 70th day. These results indicated that the supplementation of APS could increase the antioxidant ability and decrease eggyolk cholesterol of laying hens.
